Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Cross Country?

A: Cross Country is a team running sport often abbreviated as "XC". In high school, XC races usually range between 2 - 3 miles. Check out our Freshman Guide to XC.

Q: Do I need to try out for the team?

A: Nope! At Poly, there are no tryouts-- everyone is welcome! New runners will begin with 3-4 days of running per week and gradually build up to five and then six days per week.

Q: So all you guys do is run?

A: While obviously running is a huge part of the sport, we keep practices fresh by changing locations in the summer and doing fun things like our annual tour-de-pool, breakfast runs, trail runs/hikes, Mammoth Camp, pasta dinners, and much more!

Q: What equipment do I need?

A: Check out our New Runner Gear Guide.

Q: When do practices start?

A: Our first day of practice this year is Friday, June 13th 2025. We will meet at these summer practice locations. All runners should plan to be at summer practices unless you are out of town.

Q: How do I get info about practices/meets/etc?

A: We send out a weekly newsletter via email every Sunday with detailed info for the week ahead. Make sure we have your contact info by filling out our sign up form or sending an email to lbpolyxc@gmail.com.

Q: I am a parent and want to get involved. How can I help?

A: Poly XC has a long tradition of parent involvement including organizing our annual "Bun Run" fundraiser, bringing snacks after summer practices, hosting pre-meet pasta dinners, and helping carpool runners to practices & meets. Consider joining our XC Booster Club to get involved!
